Working on the voice box ...

So lately I haven't been able to blog a whole lot. Life has been busy with a new baby and everything else. But, I snuck away from a sleeper after I got a little play time in. Recently Faith has been singing... well, testing her vocal chords. It's funny because she smiles after each breath - I think she enjoys it! Here's to baby Faith growing up right in front of our eyes...

Pumpkin Patch pics!

  1. God this girl is gorgeous!

Happy three-month birthday Faith!

To Faith,
Happy 3-month birthday baby girl! For the special occasion, Auntie Rachel and you have a photoshoot date at the pumpkin patch. And since you were born on the 24th, mommy has thought of 24 special things that make you uniquely you. I realize some of these could apply to a lot of 3 month olds, but the way you do them makes you Faith. I love you so much! Here goes:

1. We had a good run with bath time, but for some reason you hate it now.
2. You move your lips like you have a pacy in your mouth when you sleep.
3. All of your smiles are so genuine and come through your big blue eyes.
4. You have your daddy's nose and profile.
5. What a good sleeper! You typically sleep from 10 ish to 5 to 6 ish. Thank you.
6. You're just learning to make spit bubbles.
7. The time you cry the most is when you're tired. Fussy time is usually in the evenings.
8. You accept every single pacifier you're given except the 20 soothies we registered for.
9. The light toy from the A'Hearns is your "baby crack" as daddy says. It can calm you down no matter what.
10. Howie loves licking your hands and you don't seem to mind at all.
11. Your hair is falling out on the sides, not the back, but you still have some curls on the top of your head and at the base of your neck.
12. You are most smiley first thing in the morning...just like mom.
13. You are such a squirmer on the changing table, but daddy has proclaimed himself a diaper champ.
14. I think you'll be quite the dancer. You typically do the jig all the way to daycare.
15. You're up to eating about 6 ounces at a time now.
16. You think you're pretty big stuff in the Bumbo.
17. You are adored by your grandparents!
18. I still haven't seen any real tears from you...knock on wood.
19. You haven't laughed much yet...maybe daddy isn't that funny.
20. Sorry to tell you but there's already naked pictures of you on the Internet.
21. You have a crazy mom.
22. She gets it from your grandma.
23. You have taken a nap long enough for me to write this even though your naps are usually short.
24. Last but not least, you are amazingly, wonderfully beautiful. I know you will be smart, spoiled, stubborn, silly and so special to everyone you meet for a long time to come. Thank you for being you and for bringing so many people so much joy over the past three months. You are one great little girl.
Love you,
Mom

The Birthday Girl's Wish Comes True

One year ago, I wished for a family on my birthday. Not that Rob, Howie and I weren't a family, but I wanted a little baby Lindquist to add to our happy home. Fast forward a year later as I blew out  the candle on my cake, I wished for a year of health and happiness for our new family. I know you're not supposed to tell, but I don't want anyone to think I was serious when I said, "we'll see if my wish comes true in 9 months." Rob did not find that amusing.

I find myself thinking a lot about  health and family on this birthday. Today my grandma Willie passed away after a summer of progressively worsening health. The one good thing about death is that it is a wake up call for life. When you lose someone you love, it's a reminder not only to not take the ones who are lucky enough to be here on earth with you and your relationships with them for granted, but also your health. I personally believe anytime we can really think about those things it's a good thing.

So family (and friends) I want you to know how much I love you with all my heart, how much you mean to me and how much I value every second of our time here on this planet together. Especially my husband. We got into an argument today about my birthday present. Thinking about it now, it's actually kind of funny. He hid it so well he can't find it, so he decided to tell me what it was and for me, it ruined the surprise, thus the argument.  And while I love the other present he got me (Nike sandals that are super comfy) I love that he  and my baby girl surprised me at work on Friday afternoon even more. And though the bottle of wine he got me called "Seven Daughters" made me smile, I love that he baked me a cake, wrote "Happy Birthday Mom," and said it was from Faith more than anything that could've been purchased with money. I have a great husband and I want him to know I know it.

Same goes for my mom. She got me giftcards to my favorite stores, bath towels I desperately needed and a cupcake recipe book I can't wait to use. She always knows what I like, but I have to say I enjoyed the time we spent together walking the Corporate Cup and chit chatting more than all those other things combined.

My friend Cari and I got together for coffee and a pedicure on Saturday. While I'm grateful that dude fixed my ingrown toenail and that Cari paid for it :) I would've had just as much fun talking with her in her living room. Our conversations made my day.

If you're noticing a trend here, you're pretty quick. I love my family and friends and most of all, spending time with them. Those are the best birthday presents a girl could ask for. So, as I close out my last hour of being 27, I want to pass on one nugget of wisdom that's really defined this last year. Family is EVERYTHING. Now go hug one of your family members and tell them how important they are to you. You will not regret it. And because this post is kind of a sad one, I'm posting our latest family pic and the practice pics we took leading up to it for your entertaining pleasure. Happy Fall :)

Ladies and gentlemen this is as good as it gets.

"The days are long, but the years go by quickly"

After being blessed to be home with my beautiful daughter for almost 11 weeks, the above quote and title of the blog could not ring truer. Tomorrow is my first day back at work since mid-June and I cannot believe how fast time has passed. It feels like just days ago I gave birth to my baby girl just before midnight on June 24. We have definitely had some difficult days, but what a whirlwind of a summer it has been for us. These are the things I will miss the most...

my daily walks around the neighborhood w/ Faith and Howie
our (somewhat one-way) conversations on the tummy time mat
hearing Faith burp
multiple clothing changes...picking out outfits for a 2-month old never loses its appeal
the pure joy that comes with each and every single smile

Most of all I'll miss being here....being able to respond to her every cry and coo. I know this is going to sound stupid, but I'm jealous of the daycare ladies who will get to spend so much time with my baby. I  do love my job and without it wouldn't have been able to spend as much time at home as I have, but there will always be a part of my mind that's constantly thinking about Faith. What she's doing, what I'm missing and how many more minutes there are before I can see her again. She is the light of my life and her smiling face first thing in the morning when I peek over the crib brings me more happiness than anything I've ever accomplished for myself.

To Faith,
I hope you know how much mommy will miss you every day. I love you so much. Play nice with the other babies. Don't do anything cool until you and daddy get home. And save all your super smiley smiles for me.
Love, Mom
